About Kenya

Kenya straddles the equator on Africa's eastern coast, sweeping from Indian Ocean beaches through the Great Rift Valley to the peaks of Mount Kenya. Its capital, Nairobi, grew from a railway depot into one of East Africa's great metropolises. Famed for its savanna wildlife and the spectacle of the wildebeest migration, Kenya is also celebrated as a cradle of humankind, where some of the oldest human fossils were unearthed.

• ·Kenya is named after Mount Kenya, the second-highest mountain in Africa, whose summit rises almost exactly on the equator.
• ·Nairobi is often described as the only capital city with a national park — complete with lions and rhinos — inside its boundaries.
