About Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines strings the volcanic island of Saint Vincent together with a chain of thirty-two smaller islands and cays trailing south through the Caribbean toward Grenada. Kingstown, the capital on Saint Vincent's southwest coast, is known for its cobblestones and arched colonial stonework. The brooding La Soufriere volcano dominates the main island's north, while the Grenadines lure sailors with reef-fringed anchorages.

  • Kingstown's botanical garden, founded in 1765, is among the oldest in the Western Hemisphere.
  • The three green diamonds on the flag form a V for Vincent and celebrate the islands' nickname, the Gems of the Antilles.
  • Scenes from the first Pirates of the Caribbean film were shot at Wallilabou Bay on Saint Vincent's leeward coast.
