About Moldova

Moldova is a small, landlocked country in Eastern Europe, tucked between Romania and Ukraine on rolling hills laced with vineyards. Its capital, Chișinău, is known for generous parks and white-stone architecture. Once part of the Principality of Moldavia and later the Soviet Union, the country is celebrated today for its winemaking tradition, with cavernous underground cellars that rank among the largest on Earth.

  • The Mileștii Mici winery stores its Guinness-record wine collection in a labyrinth of underground tunnels stretching for roughly 200 kilometres.
  • Moldova's entire Danube frontage at Giurgiulești measures less than half a kilometre, yet it hosts the country's only port with access to the sea.
  • Moldova takes its name from the Moldova River, which flows entirely through neighbouring Romania and never enters the country itself.
