Kyrgyzstan is a rugged, landlocked country in the mountains of Central Asia, where the Tian Shan range keeps most of the land high above the clouds. Its capital, Bishkek, lies in the fertile Chuy Valley beneath snowy peaks. Heir to a nomadic tradition of yurts, horsemanship, and epic oral poetry, the country also cradles Issyk-Kul, one of the largest alpine lakes on Earth.
