About Gambia
The Gambia is mainland Africa's smallest country, a narrow ribbon of land tracing the Gambia River from the Atlantic coast deep into West Africa. Enclosed on three sides by Senegal, it centres on the river that gives it life and its name. The capital, Banjul, sits on an island at the river's mouth, while beaches, mangroves and birdlife draw visitors far beyond its size.
- The Gambia is the smallest country on mainland Africa, a sliver of land rarely more than 50 kilometres wide that follows the course of the Gambia River.
